Why the In-Between Moments Stole the Show for Sami and Donovan’s Wedding Story
Sami and Donovan’s wedding at Simpson Lakes was defined by the kind of energy you only get when a couple truly lets loose. From a hilarious icing prank with the bride’s big brothers to their daughter, Scottie, owning the dance floor with her sweet wave, the day was full of the genuine, lived-in moments that make a wedding unique. Serving as their wedding content creator through The Highlight Reel package, I spent five hours capturing the editorial captures that allowed the couple to relive their celebration in real-time.
The Beauty of Professional Collaboration
I originally arrived at the venue to support Samm and her team at Gemma & Co., capturing behind-the-scenes content to highlight her meticulous planning and design. Since a videographer wasn't on-site, Samm and I worked closely together to ensure the couple still walked away with a cinematic perspective of their day.
Being a team player is at the heart of what I do. By working alongside Samm, I documented the intricate ceremony setup and the high-energy reception while staying entirely unobtrusive to the guest experience.
The Sprint for the Bouquet
One of my favorite behind-the-scenes saves to capture involved a quick-thinking relay to keep the ceremony on track. When it was discovered the bride’s bouquet was still in the bridal suite, Caroline Simpson, the co-owner of Simpson Lakes, ran it down across the property. Samm from Gemma & Co. met her halfway and sprinted the final stretch to get the flowers to the bride just in time. Because I was there to document the day's flow, we caught this perfect example of a "dream team" in action, ensuring the processional proceeded without a single interruption.

Samm curated a look that perfectly complemented the Dade Citylandscape—a theme we’d describe as Garden Elegance with an Editorial Edge. The design felt intentional and sophisticated, utilizing a color palette that felt fresh and timeless:
Dusty Sage and Seafoam: The primary accent, seen in the bridesmaids' gowns and soft greenery.
Whimsical Pastels: Pops of peach, lavender, and buttercup in the florals for a wildflower-chic vibe.
Crisp White and Antique Gold: Providing a clean foundation with a touch of warmth in the candlelight and ornate decor.
The Moments You Can't Script
Using professional handheld stabilization and a focus on candid storytelling, we prioritized the heart of the day:
A Heartfelt Surprise: In the middle of the ceremony, the couple planned beautiful surprise vows for their daughter, Scottie. As any Florida local knows, the heat can be tough on little ones, and Scottie had gone inside to cool down just as it arrived. Because I was there specifically to document the day's flow, I was able to step in and capture the entire exchange of vows so Scottie can watch them back and feel that love forever.
The Icing Surprise: One of the funniest moments of the season, Sami had her big brothers thinking they were posing for a first look, only to have them "iced" on camera. See the viral video!
The Heartbeat of the Party: Capturing the pure magic of Scottie confidently taking over the dance floor to join her parents’ first dance is a moment that would have been a "you had to be there" memory if not for a dedicated creator on-site.
